If you heard about my cooking skills, you probably know that I used to be a very big disaster in the kitchen.
I still don’t know how grandma look after of five pots on the stove, plus something else in the oven. Please, grandma, how do you do that? How? I’m not even able to cook using two pots without making a huge mess!
There was a time I went to grandma’s to learn a little bit of cooking as I was coming to Australia and I wanted to know something to be able to survive by myself. When I faced those five pans in front of me I almost started to cry. I’m being serious! I didn’t know where to start!
“Add salt to the corn and keep stirring”, she told me. Meanwhile, there she comes again: “Now, cut the bacon and mix it with onions in another pan”. Well, between the stirring corn and “let’s cut the bacon” I accidentally bumped on the wood spoon, and then there was corn everywhere. Bingo, Manuella!
I couldn’t. That was the closest I got to cook in my life. I hadn’t ever started anything from scratch in my life at that time. I was totally unable to cook or to get close to the oven. All right, I can not tell you that I tried hard, because I didn’t. But the point was I didn’t have to. There was always someone else to cook for me!
Everything began when I really got to face the fact that I should start learnig more cooking. Otherwise it would be ready meals for ever. (Please HELP). But I didn’t start straight ahead. It took almost two years to get not only a satisfied result in the kitchen but also the willing to cook.
Over time, I had to learn something. By following grandma’s and friend’s recipes I can finally tell you that I’m in a very satisfied level of my cooking skills, which means that lately I’ve been keen to cook more often than before and I’m getting better on that. I would say I’m really proud of myself! Oh yeah babe, I really am. Haha! Things are changing, my friends!
One of my favourites is the risotto. Last time, it was a veggie risotto and I embellished it with some almonds. That was just amazing! What I love about risotto is the fact that I can cook it in one pan only plus I can mix all the leftover and it’s going to be good!
Now, two years later, after so many goes, lots of unsuccessful dishes, lots of pizza and ready pasta, I am willing to cook! I really am. Let’s cook new recipes, easy ones, difficult ones, dangerous ones, everything, bring it on!!!
However I would say that those 30 minutes recipes are my favourites!! If you know that kind of recipe that it’s done in half an hour or those ones that it’s cooked in one pan only, let me know, let’s share with each other. I’ll be more than happy to hear from you.
